AC issues notices to Sharifs in graft cases
RAWALPINDI: An accountability court on Wednesday issued notices to Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) President Nawaz Sharif, Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif, MNA Hamza Shahbaz and six other members of the Sharif family in Hudaibia Paper Mills, Ittefaq Foundry and Raiwind land corruption cases.
Special Accountability Court Judge Chaudhry Abdul Haq issued the summons for July 28 over three separate petitions filed by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB), seeking reopening of corruption references against the Sharif brothers. The court also ordered NAB to produce all relevant record and details by July 28.
The petitions were filed following the recommendations of a special committee of NAB, constituted to scrutinise cases and reopen three references against the Sharif family.
The applicant had requested the court to reopen delayed references against the Sharif brothers in the cases of Hudaibia Paper Mills, Ittefaq Foundry and Raiwind Farmhouse. These references were filed during former president Pervez Musharraf's rule but not taken up by accountability courts. Recently, certain quarters have been urging courts to take up the cases. app
