Junior Gilani has a narrow escapeMULTAN: After a close contest, Abdul Qadir Gilani, the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) candidate and son of former prime minister Yousaf Raza Gilani, won the by-election held in Multan's NA 151. According to unofficial results, he was followed by independent candidate Malik Shaukat Hayat Boson. Abdul Qadir led the race with 64,628 votes, while Bosan was the runner up with 60,532 votes, with the former winning by a lead of 4,062 votes. The National Assembly seat was vacated by Yousaf Raza Gilani after the Supreme Court disqualified him for defying its order to write a letter to Swiss authorities against President Asif Ali Zardari. Earlier, rigging reports were received from various polling stations where people accused presiding officers of stamping the ballot papers. Ten candidates, nine of them independent, were contesting the by-election. The real competition was between Abdul Qadir and Malik Shaukat Hayat Boson. Abdul Qadir was contesting the election on PPP ticket while Boson was being backed by Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI). online
