Time for exploiting ‘Sindh Card’ is over, says Nawaz

* PML-N chief vows to resist any move towards bifurcation of Sindh

* PML-N and SUP form electoral alliance

KARACHI: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) chief Nawaz Sharif has said that the era of exploiting ‘Sindh Card’ by President Asif Ali Zardari was over, as his party was developing strong roots in the province.

Addressing a ceremony held for an electoral alliance of his party with the Sindh United Party (SUP) on Thursday, Nawaz said he would resist any move towards bifurcation of Sindh.

The PNL-N would never support partition of Sindh, he said, adding that if his party comes to power, distribution of water among provinces would be made in accordance with the 1991 formula.

Nawaz welcomed his party’s alliance with SUP, saying the coalition would help bring a true leadership into power. He termed the federal government a gang of opportunists, which was responsible for devastation of the country, and added politics should not be based on opportunity, but sincerity.

He lamented the wave of target killings and extortion in Karachi, and the law and order situation in Balochistan, adding that the rulers seemed helpless to control the situation.

Referring to reopening of three references against his family, the PML-N chief said, “I will not to be worried about these gimmicks.”

Earlier, talking to the media at the Karachi airport, Nawaz said that reopening of National Accountability Bureau (NAB) cases against his family was aimed at tarnishing his credibility and he was well aware of the elements behind the move.

He said that the PML-N was committed to resolving the problems faced by the masses and would restore the lost dignity of country.

Nawaz said that he would conduct “economic blast” after coming to power, adding that all self-centered people had gathered to share power in Islamabad.

The former prime minister said that his party did not believe in blame game, and suggested that politics should be based on public interest. The PML-N president said that he would not meet President Zardari through backdoor.

Replying to a query regarding Rehman Malik’s statement, Nawaz said that it was someone else's turn to go to jail, adding that democracy was being dealt a blow through chalking out of contempt of court laws.

“The PPP should not chalk out a law in haste only to protect a handful of people,” he said, adding that it should sit across a table with the opposition and prepare a law through collective wisdom. agencies
