President, PM’s immunity challenged in SC
LAHORE: A lawyer, Jamil Rana, on Friday filed a petition in the Supreme Court’s Lahore Registry against the immunity provided to the president and prime minister under article 248 of the constitution. The petitioner stated that the immunity to the president and prime minister was against the teachings of the holy Quran and Sunnah. He stated that the article 248 was against the injunctions of Islamic laws. The lawyer said the aforementioned provision of the constitution was meant to protect some higher-ups and influential personalities in different cases, adding that according to Islamic injunctions every one was equal before the law and answerable for his deeds and misdeeds. staff report
