Fakhruddin G Ibrahim takes oath as CEC
ISLAMABAD: Justice (Retired) Fakhruddin G. Ibrahim has taken oath as Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) on Monday morning here, Geo News reported.
Chief Justice of Pakistan, Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry administered the oath to the country’s first consensus and 23rd CEC, Fakhruddin G. Ibrahim.
Members Election Commission, Supreme Court Judges and senior lawyers were also present on this occasion.
Fakhruddin G. Ibrahim taking charge as CEC has become all the more eventful in the annals of history, as this is the unique occasion that the government, opposition and all political parties have reposed their confidence while nominating Fakhruddin G. Ibrahim as CEC.
Later, talking to the media Fakhruddin G. Ibrahim said that his recent statement about holding of earlier elections was in his personal capacity and now he was bound by the constitution. He said that it was the prerogative of the government to hold elections in the country. He said that according to his predecessor Election Commission was ready to hold elections and he has full faith in him.
CEC further said that his office was bound to abide by the orders of the Supreme Court.
