Govt has failed to keep its promises in Ramazan, says Imran

LAHORE: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Chairman Imran Khan, on Monday, said the government had once again failed to fulfil its promise of controlling load shedding and the rising prices during Ramazan. Talking to PTI Information Secretary Shafqat Mehmood on the phone from London, he said, “Load shedding has returned to haunt the people and the rising prices of essential commodities too have added to their misery. In fact, electricity, CNG and petroleum prices have all been raised during this month.” He said the reason for massive load shedding was corruption, poor governance and bad planning. “The electricity problem is to some extent self created. The circular debt could have been reduced had the present government changed from using furnace oil, which they did not,” he said. He added that despite paying a subsidy of over Rs 1 trillion, electricity tariffs had been doubled and no solutions were found for the electricity crisis. “The energy crisis has been due to the present prime minister’s rental power scam to loot and plunder. It is because of corruption that any and every plan proposed by this government to solve the energy crisis has never been implemented,” he said. He said, “Should this electricity situation remain unresolved, the ruling elite should be ready to face the wrath of the people.” staff report
