Ch Nisar regrets judges remarks on opposition

ISLAMABAD: Opposition Leader in National Assembly Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan expressing regret on some judges' remarks over opposition's role in connection with the passage of Contempt of Court Bill, asking how 90 lawmakers could stop a bill in a house of 324 members.

In a statement issued today, Nisar wondered as to what option the opposition members had at the time of the contempt law was being passed. "Should the opposition snatch the bill from ministers hand and tear it apart or resort to adopting a violent behaviour?" he asked, adding how could 90 members stop the bill in a house of 324.

He said Pakistan Muslim League-N opposed the bill at every level and raised protest against it. "Our members kept delivering speeches, raised voice and protest against the bill," he maintained.

The opposition leader said the honorable judges should have specifically pin pointed the mistake of the opposition. He said a walk out is considered an extreme expression of showing opposition in Parliamentary practices.

In civilized countries if an opposition stages a walkout, the government abandons that legislation.
