‘PEMRA taking action against vulgarity’
ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) has rejected the statement of former chief of Jamaat-e-Islami (JI), Qazi Hussain Ahmed, that PEMRA was helpless in curbing indecency and vulgarity. PEMRA, in a statement issued on Saturday, said that they have been constantly engaged in eliminating the menace of obscenity and vulgarity from broadcast media and cable TV networks. Immediate actions have been taken against the licensees when any such incident came under light, it added.
PEMRA further added that courts have also been issuing stay orders to the licensees, which did not allow the authority to implement its laws completely.
PEMRA said that the complaint lodged by Qazi Hussain Ahmed and Justice (r) Wajihuddin contained no specific detail of any incident or programme or name of any channel to be particularly probed. In response to the complaint, a meeting of Council of Complaints Islamabad was called on July 2, however, neither the complainant nor any of their representatives appeared on the given date, PEMRA added. staff report
