Punjab, KP protests over outages persist
LAHORE/PESHAWAR: Protests against power outages continue as outrage grows amongst the residents of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Punjab.In Lakki Marwat residents protested and set fire to a NADRA office and vehicles present outside. The raging mobs burnt tyres, pelted stones, smashed the signboards and blocked roads, while venting their anger. Police resorted to aerial firing in their bid to disperse the crowds. At least 17 demonstrators were rounded up by the Lakki Marwat police.
Despite being an ally of the ruling PPP, ANP workers in Charsadda also staged protest demos against power outages at Tehsil Bazar and voiced slogans against Wapda authorities.
Loadshedding protests in Punjab continued to turn violent as residents expressed anger over 12-18 hours of loadshedding. Residents of Qasba Phularwan pestered by unabated loadshedding and the apathetic attitude of the authorities continued their demos for the second day, when the enraged protestors tore off the signboard of the local police station, smashed the electricity meter, torched tyres and voiced slogans.
Meanwhile, Awami National Party (ANP) walked out of the Senate session in protest against the loadshedding.
