ANP announces APC over ‘unjustified’ load shedding
PESHAWAR: The Awami National Party- (ANP) led Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government, under pressure from growing protests against unscheduled load shedding across the province, announced on Monday to call an all-parties conference (APC) on the crisis on August 9. ANP’s provincial chief Senator Afrasiab Khattak told a news conference at the Peshawar Press Club that despite Khyber Pakhtukhwa’s huge share in power production, 18-hour-long unannounced load shedding was being carried out in the province, which was a great injustice with the people. He said, “It is totally against the spirit of 18th Amendment and the federation was carrying out unjustified load shedding in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. We would support peaceful protesters as the unprecedented power outages were unacceptable to the people.” Senior Khyber Pakhtunkhwa minister Bashir Ahmad Bilour, Information Minister Mian Iftikhar Hussain, Education Minsiter Sardar Hussain Babek, MNA Jamila Gilani, MPA Shagufta Malik and party activists accompanied Khattak during the press conference. The leaders blamed WAPDA for “ totally failing” in managing the situation amid growing electricity shortfall in the county. staff report
