Governor’s rule won’t be clamped on Sindh: PML-N

ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) has ruled out the imposition of governor’s rule in Sindh, being governed by its political rival the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP). “The PML-N government is neither thinking about such a move, nor considers it a solution to the problems in the province,” PML-N Central Information Secretary Mushahidullah Khan said on Wednesday. The announcement of the party came in the face of apprehensions of senior leaders of the PPP after the interior minister’s reported ultimatum to the Sindh government for controlling the law and order, which he later denied on the floor of the National Assembly. “The apprehensions of the PPP leaders are ‘uncalled for’, ambiguous and beyond comprehension that the federal government has plans for imposing the governor’s rule in Sindh,” Mushahid said. He noted that the issue of law and order rested with the provincial governments, and that the federal government was there to assist them in bringing the security situation under control. “The mandate of the people is not only to rule over them. It puts a heavy responsibility of protecting the lives and property of the people,” he said, and added that the people could be satisfied only through the performance. Talking about the Karachi situation, Mushahid said that the city was the economic nerve of the country, and every Pakistani wanted peace in the metropolis. He said that the responsibility of peace and security in Karachi and Quetta rested on “all of us, and all the political forces and law enforcement agencies are required to ensure peace in the country for the prosperity and well being of the people”. staff report
