President orders crackdown on Lyari gangs regardless of political ties

KARACHI: President Asif Ali Zardari Saturday ordered the concerned authorities to deal with the violent criminals fanning unrest in Lyari with iron hand regardless of their political affiliations, Geo News reported.

President Zardari issued these directives during a high-level meeting held to review the law and order situation in Karachi in particular and Sindh in general.

According to sources, the meeting, which was held in Bilawal House here, zeroed in on the deteriorating law and order situation in the restive Lyari area.

He also tasked the authorities with a stronger intelligence system.

The meeting was attended among others by Governor Sindh Dr. Ishratul Ebad Khan and Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah.

Senator Rehman Malik‚ PPP leaders Syed Khursheed Shah‚ Sharjeel Memon and other senior officials were also present on the occasion.

Senator Saeed Ghani, Senator Yousuf Baloch, and Abdul Qadir Patel, the members of committee formed to look into Lyari situation also briefed the president about the latest turmoil in the area.
