Pakistan, China sign deal on economic corridor
BEIJING: Pakistan and China signed eight documents of cooperation in various areas of economy on Friday for furthering already-strong economic and technical ties between the two friendly countries.
The first pact, pertaining to an ambitious long-term project approximately costing $18 billion that would include building around 200 kilometre tunnels, was the Pak-China Economic Corridor.
Federal Minister for Planning and Development Ahsan Iqbal signed the pact from the Pakistani side, while National Development and Reforms Commission of PRC Chairman Xu Shao Shi inked the pact on behalf of China.
The Chinese premier said that China had strategic interest in the corridor.
The Agreement on Economic and Technical Cooperation between the governments of Pakistan and China was also inked. Adviser to Prime Minister on Foreign Affairs Tariq Fatemi signed the agreement.
Two letters of exchanges were also signed – one on training courses for textile, flood relief and disastrous management and the other for provision of equipment for eradication of polio.
Another MoU was signed for cooperation and exchanges between Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz and the ruling Communist Party of China.
Adviser Tariq Fatemi signed another MoU for cooperation between the Institute of Strategic Studies and the China Institute of Contemporary Study.
Another document was signed between the Strategic Communication Organisation of Pakistan and Huawei company for laying optic fibre for setting up communication link between Pakistan and China. Punjab Energy Minister Chaudhry Sher Ali Khan signed the MoU on the Local Home Solar Solution project. The chief of the ZTE signed the document on behalf of China. app
