LAHORE: Explosives concealed in a polythene bag went off inside a restaurant on the busy Food Street of the Old Anarkali area on Saturday night, killing at least four people, including a six-year-old girl, and injuring 47 others, said police and rescue officials.
According to media reports, the explosion took place on the ground floor of a three-storey building.
Lahore DCO Nasim Sadiq told the media at the crime scene that 500 grammes of explosives attached to a timed device were blown up in the area devoted specifically to eating out.
Rescue teams arrived at the scene and shifted the injured to the Mayo and Sir Gangaram hospitals, where doctors say at least 20 of the injured were still critical.
Doctors also confirmed recovering ball bearings from the victims, according to a private news channel.
Emergency was declared at the hospitals immediately after blast. Law enforcement personnel also arrived at the scene and cordoned off the area. A search operation was underway in the area until the filing of this report.
