NAB gets 14 day physical remand of Tauqir Sadiq
ISLAMABAD: Former Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) chairman Tauqir Sadiq, allegedly involved in a Rs82 billion scam, was presented in the accountability court number 1 after being brought to Pakistan from United Arab Emirates, Geo News reported Tuesday.
Judge Muhammad Bashir was hearing the OGRA scam case where on the request of the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) prosecutor, Sadiq was placed on a 14-day physical remand.
During the proceedings, Tauqir Sadiq alleged that NAB officials were threatening to break his legs, if he didn't say in court what has been dictated to him. Sadiq informed the court that he was being wrongly accused and that prominent personalities were involved in the scandal. “I will reveal details of these allegations against me and the individuals involved soon.”
The court has directed that Sadiq be medically examined after his assault allegations.
Tauqir Sadiq was shifted to Pakistan from the UAE early Tuesday morning.
Sadiq was brought back to Pakistan by a NAB investigator Waqas Ahmad Khan through a private airliner, which landed at the Islamabad’s Benazir International Airport here this morning.
The accused was shifted to the NAB headquarters in Rawalpindi before being presented in the accountability court.
The Supreme Court had ordered the NAB, Pakistan’s top anti-corruption body, to arrest him after declaring his appointment as OGRA chief illegal last year.
The accused, however managed to leave Pakistan despite placement of his name on the Exit Control List (ECL).
