FIA arrests ex-minister in EOBI scandal

KARACHI: Former provincial minister Iqbal Daud Pakwala was arrested on Monday in the Employees Old Age Benefit Institute (EOBI) corruption case.

He was a caretaker minister in Sindh’s interim cabinet.

The Federal Investigation Authority (FIA) arrested Iqbal Pakwala after the court refused to extend his bail.

The former minister was taken to the FIA office for interrogation. The Supreme Court last Monday ordered the FIA to complete the inquiry into the alleged corruption of Rs 40 billion in the EOBI scandal within 10 days and submit a report. Iqbal was allegedly involved in 18 dubious transactions made to purchase properties on exorbitant prices. online
