SC seeks details of expenditures incurred on Tauqir Sadiq’s return
ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court (SC) on Wednesday sought details of expenditures incurred on bringing Tauqir Sadiq, the prime accused in the OGRA corruption case, back from the United Arab Emirates A two-member bench of the Supreme Court resumed hearing of the case pertaining to multi-billion corruption scandal in Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) when Tauqir Sadiq was its chairman. The SC also sought a report on action taken by NAB against the people who helped the former OGRA chairman flee the country. Justice Jawwad S Khwaja asked as to why Tauqir Sadiq was not arrested even after it was pointed out that the accused travelled via motorway, adding that it appears the NH&MP IG, political personalities and bureaucrats helped Sadiq escape.
“Some influential persons helped Tauqir Sadiq flee the country despite placement of his name on Exit Control List (ECL). We have come to know some influential political figures facilitated him in escaping from the country. Tauqir Sadiq was present in NAB headquarters when his warrants were issued, warrants were torn apart. Where does this matter stand now?” the judge asked.
Justice Khawaja also asked NAB officials what measures had been taken against these personalities. NAB Prosecutor General KK Agha informed the court that a senior investigation officer has been appointed and a progress report would be submitted in court. The court later adjourned the hearing until July 24 and directed.
Tauqir Sadiq had fled Pakistan in December last year along with his wife and two daughters. staff report
