Security conference be called as per schedule, says Khurshid Shah
Staff Report
ISLAMABAD: Opposition leader in the National Assembly Syed Khurshid Shah on Wednesday called for holding national security conference as per schedule and without linking it to the availability of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan who went abroad a couple of days ago.
“It is a national issue and should not be linked to one individual,” the opposition leader said while talking to media persons outside Parliament House.
The government has not announced the date for holding the summit so far and backtracked from its earlier announcement that the conference of parliamentary party heads would be held on July 12. Shah said that the important conference on national security should not be delayed as it was creating doubts in minds. “Imran Khan should have stayed in the country instead of going abroad as lives of people are more important than visiting London,” Shah said. Shah also called for an investigation into leakage of Abbottabad commission’s report to a foreign media outlet. “During the PPP government no national secret was leaked but such secrets have come to public even in the first month of PML-N government,” he said. He also said that he could not comment on the report findings unless authenticity of the content is verified. About the name of Justice (r) Rana Baghwandas for appointment as NAB chairman, Shah said that a new name would be floated if any legal complication comes inn the way of this appointment. “We have persuaded Rana Bhagwandas for his appointment as National Accountability Bureau chairman while Justice (r) Sardar Raza has not been contacted in this regard so far,” he told the media.
Shah also hailed the visit of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif to China and said the PM’s decision to go to China instead of visiting any other country is “meaningful”. To a query, he said the government was wrong to say that it had paid circular debt of PPP’s tenure in government, adding that the PPP had inherited the debt from Pervez Musharraf regime.
