Zardari will return to country in 10 days: PPP
* Khurshid Shah says heavily taxed people repenting for voting PML-N into power
ISLAMABAD: Opposition leader in the National Assembly Syed Khurshid Shah has said that President Asif Ali Zardari will return to the country within 10 days.
Talking to reporters on Saturday, he said that Prime Minister Nawaz Shraif had not contacted him regarding the appointment of the NAB chief.
“If any objection is raised over the name of [Justice (r)] Rana Bhagwandas for his appointment as the NAB chairman, the PPP will propose another name,” he said, adding that the NAB chairman should be “non-controversial”.
Shah called for holding an inquiry into the leakage of the Abbottabad commission’s report. “It is important to find out from where and how the Abbottabad commission’s report was leaked.” He said that the commission’s report had become an open secret, but no reaction had come from the government.
“This should be investigated and designs behind it be exposed,” he said.
He alleged that the government had brought a mini-budget by issuing the Statutory Regulatory Order (SRO) on GST. “The PPP will voice its strong protest against the SRO,” he said, adding that an adjournment motion would be moved in National Assembly against the price hike. He said the report of the Statistics Division released the other day had admitted a two percent increase in inflation, whereas the collective increase was 50 percent.
He said that prices of commodities had soared in an unprecedented way, and those who had voted for the PML-N were now repenting. He said the government wanted to fill the treasury by additional taxes; thus snatching the right to life from the poor. To a question, he said it was unfortunate that the government had postponed the proposed all-parties conference (APC) without taking the political parties into confidence. He demanded an immediate convening of the APC on terrorism and extremism. He said the PPP government held several conferences in this connection, and a number of resolutions were passed in the two houses. Khurshid Shah said the purpose of Lyari operation was to provide security to the people from terrorists, and added that some people were migrating from the area for their safety. inp
