SC gives 4-month time to recompile Sindh land record
KARACHI: The Supreme Court of Pakistan on Wednesday granted four month time to the Sindh Chief Secretary to recompile land record lost in arson attacks in the aftermath of Benazir Bhutto's assassination.
A three judge-bench headed by Justice Anwar Zaheer Jamali was hearing Karachi suo motu implementation case at the Karachi registry of the apex court.
Deputy Director Board of Revenue Syed Zulfiqar Ali Shah on Wednesday told the Supreme Court that KPT, DHA, Port Qasim, Malir Development Authority and other departments were involved in land grabbing in Karachi.
The issue of deteriorating law and order in Lyari also discussed during proceedings. The Advocate General told the court that criminal activities were the major problem facing Lyari.
Justice Khilji said that the situation in Lyari had worsened but authorities did contrary to the court orders. “Now, tell us, how many police officers should we sack,” Justice Amir Hani Muslim said.
“We dismiss an officer, and you, acting against our orders reinstate them,” he added and observed that even the chief minister would not be spared if he violated law.
