Several non-existing notables also given funds by ex-PM Raja: DG Audit
ISLAMABAD: Director General Audit Wednesday told the Supreme Court that a whooping sum of Rs37.8 billion were distributed as development funds among the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) and its allied parties and several among the beneficiaries were found non-existing, Geo News reported.
SC three-member bench headed by the Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry was hearing the former prime minister Raja Pervaiz Ashraf’s discretionary development funds case here.
During the hearing, the Chief Justice said that the funds were lavishly distributed by issuing chits prior to general elections and it was expected that the new government would come forward assuring they at their own end would take up this matter.
Attorney General Munir A. Malik said that the funds and government treasury were the property of the people and not a single penny could be spent without proper approval, more than 50 percent of the development schemes were non-transparent.
DG Audit, Rahmat Manzoor told that several notables to whom funds were issued found non-existing. He said that a huge sum of Rs37.8 billion was distributed among PPP and its allied parties---Awami National Party (ANP) was given Rs1.7 billion.
Chief Justice said that any project launched by the people’s money should be completely under rules and regulations and observed that the prime minister happens to be of the entire country and not any particular area.
