SC directs provinces to hold LG polls by September
ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court of Pakistan has directed provinces to conduct Local Government (LG) polls by September.
During proceedings of a case pertaining to LG polls, Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry directed that the apex court be informed in writing by July 22 about the election date.
Advocate General Punjab, Mustafa Ramday said it would take the provincial government 90 days to hold the polls as delimitation would be required. The chief justice asked that the province was being governed by the same party during the last five years so why was delimitation not done? The top judge remarked that not even a single day would be extended.
On Wednesday, the Supreme Court had directed the federation and four provinces to provide a definitive date for holding LG elections across the country.
