Ex-OGRA chief Tauqir Sadiq challenges jail term
ISLAMABAD: Former Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) chairman Tauqir Sadiq has challenged three years imprisonment handed down to him by an accountability court.
He filed the appeal against the sentence in the Islamabad High Court (IHC). Sadiq, who is accused of Rs82 billion corruption in OGRA and irregularities in awarding CNG licenses was sentenced by the court in absentia.
He contended that he was in the custody of United Arab Emirates (UAE) in May 2013 and he did not deliberately avoid appearing before the court. Sadiq said that the sentence awarded in absentia has no justification after his appearance.
