Nisar assesses Karachi law and order

KARACHI: Interior Minister, Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan arrived here on Monday to assess the law and order situation. This was Nisar’s first visit to Karachi, the economic hub of Pakistan which continues to be plagued by violence.

Upon his arrival at the airport, Nisar said the law and order situation in the city had not improved after the new government had taken control. “The situation in Karachi impacts the entire country,” Nisar told reporters.

In a meeting with PML-N representatives, Nisar was informed about extortion slips being received by businessmen ahead of Eid. According to sources, Nisar told the PML-N representatives that residents of Karachi would not be left at the mercy of terrorists.

The Interior Minister also received a briefing from DG Rangers Major General Rizwan Akhtar about the situation in Lyari and targeted operations.

Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan also met Sindh Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah in which law and order situation in the provincial capital was discussed.

Later, a meeting on the security situation in the city was also chaired by Nisar and Shah.

During his visit to Karachi, the interior minister also discussed the unrest in the city with Governor Sindh Dr Ishratul Ebad.

“The people of Karachi do not deserve this,” Nisar said while speaking to the media after meeting Pakistan Muslim League-Functional Chief Pir Pagara. The interior minister added that he had assured Chief Minister Sindh of full support from the Federal government.
