LG elections be held in September: SC

ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court of Pakistan has ordered that Local Government (LG) elections in the country be held by September 15.

During the hearing of a case pertaining to the LG elections, the Supreme Court directed that polls should be held between September 15 -30. The apex court added that all legal formalities in this regard should be completed by August 15.

In an earlier hearing, the Supreme Court had directed provinces to conduct LG polls by September and provide a definitive date.

The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has expressed its willingness to hold LG elections, while the Punjab government is working on a document pertaining to the polls. Sindh Chief Minister, Qaim Ali Shah said the province would request six months time from the Supreme Court.
