Government officials involved with electricity thieves: PM
ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif said Tuesday that the majority of his time was being spent on resolving the energy crisis and government officials were involved with electricity thieves.
Speaking to senior journalists, the prime minister added that he had asked the provinces to take action against individuals who were stealing electricity. The prime minister reiterated that resolving the energy crisis was the government’s top priority. “We discussed this at length during the Council of Common Interests (CCI) meeting and the provinces have asked for more time to hold consultations over the energy policy.”
According to Prime Minister Sharif it was essential to control electricity theft and legislation in this regard would be approved soon.
The prime minister claimed that circular debt had been finished and subsidies would be provided 70 million living under the poverty line. “The Rs 150 billion will continue.”
Prime Minister Sharif further said that headway had been made on the Basha Dam and repairs on electricity transmission lines were required. Mr Sharif attributed tripping as the reason for power outages during Sehri and Iftar.
