Won’t be a president like Zardari, Ishaq: Mamnoon

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) candidate for presidential election Mamnoon Hussain said on Wednesday that he would not be a president like President Asif Ali Zardari or Ghulam Ishaq Khan.

Speaking to the media after filing his nomination papers at the Islamabad High Court, Hussain said that unlike Zardari he would be an “impartial president of the entire nation”.

He said if elected president, he would work impartially and take all the political parties on board on all important issues and decisions.

“After the 18th Amendment, powers of the president are limited. However, my actions will manifest my impartiality,” he said. To a question, he said he would resign from the party office and basic membership once elected president of Pakistan.

Hussain said PML-N leader Iqbal Jhagra was his covering candidate in accordance with the constitution.

He said the 1947-like spirit was required to put the country on the road to progress, prosperity and development.

“The strong commitment showed by the Muslims in 1947 made the creation of Pakistan possible and today the same resolve is needed to resolve national issues,” he added.

He said that he hoped that after completion of this government’s five-year term, the country’s political and economic situation would be far better and improved.

Hussain was governor of Sindh from June to October 1999 when Nawaz Sharif’s government was overthrown in a bloodless coup led by General Pervez Musharraf. agencies
