Bugti grandson leaves for home after eight years
QUETTA: Nawabzada Gohram Bugti, the grandson of late Nawab Akbar Khan Bugti and son of Jamhoori Watan Party (JWP) leader Nawabzada Talal Bugti, left for Dera Bugti on Wednesday.
The Bugti family, which will be visiting its family fort after eight years, was accompanied by a number of internally displaced persons (IDPs).
Talking to reporters at the Quetta airport, Gohram said that the government should not stop them from going to their homes as it was their constitutional right.
“If anything happens to us, responsibility will be on the federal government.”
One of the journalists accompanying the IDPs said the government of Balochistan has extended its cooperation to the convoy of Bugti family and it is moving under government protection.
“They will reach the home of Nawab Akbar Khan Bugti in a security cover provided by the government,” the journalist said.
Gohram said the caretaker government had not allowed Shahzain Bugti to enter Dera Bugti, adding, “If the incumbent also government makes any such attempts, the situation can deteriorate.”
He said that there was no danger of any tribal clash if the Bugti family goes to Dera Bugti.
“We are going to Dera Bugti not for fighting but for making peace.” He added that the Dera Bugti assistant commissioner had assured the convoy that the fortress of Nawab Akbar Khan Bugti had been vacated.
Asked if Shahzain was also going with the convoy, Gohram said that this time he was going alone with other IDPs.
After the military operation in Balochistan in 2006-2007, an estimated 170,000 tribesmen had migrated from Dera Bugti and its adjoining districts. They were later kept from resettling in their homes.
According to Gohram, more than 200,000 people are homeless since 2005.
The tribesmen say the previous government did nothing for the displaced families, except for arresting them in 2010 and later releasing them.
Earlier this year, the tribes tried to enter Dera Bugti twice but were stopped at the Dolo checkpoint by law enforcement agencies. staff report/online
