Mamnoon and Wajihuddin’s nomination papers accepted
ISLAMABAD: The nomination papers of PML-N presidential candidate Mamnoon Hussain and PTI candidate Justice (retd) Wajihuddin Ahmed were accepted by the Election Commission of Pakistan on Friday.
Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Fakhruddin G Ebrahim who is serving as the Returning Officer was present at the venue to scrutinize and approve the nomination papers of the presidential candidates.
During the process, an objection was raised regarding Mamnoon Hussain’s party membership, as the contesting candidates are restricted to hold any party membership.
However, PML-N’s Mamnoon Hussain had already announced to resign from the party membership after winning the presidential election.
Mamoon Hussain who served as the 27th Governor of Sindh had submitted his nomination papers on Thursday.
The ECP also approved the nomination papers of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) candidate Justice (retd) Wajihuddin Ahmed.
Speaking to media after his nomination papers were accepted, the PTI candidate said he was not in favour of the boycott. “Boycotting the election is not the solution to the problem.”
Justice (retd) Wajihuddin’s comments came as the PPP announced its decision to boycott the presidential election scheduled to be held on July 30.
Speaking to Geo News, Justice (retd) Wajihuddin said we should look towards the future and it was the right of a political party and candidate to boycott.
