Notices issued against violation of retirement rules in PIA
KARACHI: Sindh High Court (SHC) has directed the secretary, ministry of defense, chairman Pakistan International Airlines (PIA), managing director PIA and other official respondents to submit comments in a petition against employees of PIA, who were not retired from service despite reaching retirement age.
The petitioner, Mansoor Ahmed, Cargo supervisor in PIA submitted that managing director of PIA Investments, Najeed Sami, who was born on July 4, 1951 and crossed the retirement age of 60 years in 2011, has not retired from service, which is contrary to the government rules and the verdict of the Supreme Court.
He said that managing director of PIA Investments is also a holder of a dual nationality, and have passports of two countries, which according to petitioner was illegal. The petitioner further said that many other employees who have reached the retirement age are still working and drawing salaries, perks and privileges.
He said that rules and regulations regarding the retirement of employees of PIA were equal. Though, he added that many employees including managing director PIA investments, pilots and other employees, who have crossed the retirement age, were continuing their services in violation of the laws.
He contended that PIA chairman was acting in violation of the laws and giving services extension to the blue-eyed boys on political basis.
Citing secretary of ministry defense, chairman Pakistan International Airlines (PIA), managing director PIA investment, director HR and Coordination, and general manager Industrial relations PIA, the petitioner prayed to the court to direct them to place before it the details all such employees who were still not retired from service despite reaching retirement age.
A division of SHC headed by Justice Ghulam Sarwar Korai issued notice to respondents and deputy attorney general to file comments. It adjourned the hearing of case to August 7, 2013.
