PPP shouldn’t have boycotted: Nawaz
ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif said on Friday that the boycott of the presidential election by Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) was against the democratic norms and the party should not have boycotted the election. “Sportsman spirit demands that they should have contested the election,” he said. The prime minister expressed these views while speaking to a delegation of senators and members of the Balochistan Assembly, who called on him here at his office. Prime Minister Nawaz said that under the previous schedule the presidential election fell on Ramazan 27, which is a religious occasion, adding, the change of date should be acceptable to all as enough time is available for campaigning. He appreciated the role of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI) which had decided to contest the election and said that it will strengthen the democratic culture in the country. The prime minister said that the nomination of Mamnoon Hussain as presidential candidate was a sign of the PML-N’s federal vision through which it had brought the smaller provinces into mainstream. app
