PML-N, PTI face to face in election

ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PMLN) and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf will face each other in the presidential election. PML-N’s presidential candidate Mamnoon Hussain’s nomination papers were accepted by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) despite objections during scrutiny. Chief Election Commissioner Fakhruddin G Ebrahim scrutinised the nomination papers as the presiding officer. Mamnoon Hussain, Raza Rabbani of the Pakistan People’s Party and Justice retired Wajhiuddin of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI) are amongst the twenty-four candidates who have submitted nomination papers for the coveted slot. According to media reports, two presidential candidates had raised three objections over Mamnoon Hussain’s nomination papers. Zahoor Hussain, who is also contesting the presidential election, raised the objection that according to Islamic practices Mamnoon Hussain should have a beard. He told the chief election commissioner that Hussain is over the age of 65, which is older than the required age for retirement. Another objection was regarding Hussain’s position in the PML-N, as a presidential candidate has to be free of any party affiliation. The ECP also accepted PTI candidate Justice (r) Wajihuddin’s nomination papers. staff report
