Sherpao asks govt to formulate IDPs repatriation strategy
PESHAWAR: Qaumi Watan Party (QWP) Chairman Aftab Ahmad Khan Sherpao on Sunday asked the government for a comprehensive strategy to repatriate the internally displaced persons (IDPs) and repair infrastructure in North Waziristan.
“It is indeed an unprecedented sacrifice to leave one’s home under unfavourable circumstances”, he said while addressing the IDPs in Bannu. Aftab Sherpao also distributed cash among over 300 families, according to a press statement issued in Peshawar on Sunday. He lauded the people from North Waziristan and the security forces for making sacrifices. QWP leaders Sikandar Hayat Khan Sherpao, Hashim Babar, Justice (r) Shahjehan Khan, Saidullah Shah, Ghufran Khattak, QWP Kohat Chairman Mehmood Islam, QWP Bannu Chairman Fareedullah and QWP Focal Person for IDPs Adnan Wazir were also present on the occasion. Aftab Sherpao said the government should work out an all-inclusive plan and new incentives for their economic revival that farming was a main livelihood of tribesmen of North Waziristan and no effort be spared to avoid collateral damage. The QWP leader said, the government should decide FATA status, keeping tribespersons in view. He suggested frontier regions merged with tribal agencies or settled districts in the first phase. He added that in the second phase, FATA should be declared Provincially Administered Tribal Areas (PATA).
