‘Pakistan ambassador yet to gain access to Zaid Hamid in Saudia’
ISLAMABAD – Foreign Office spokesperson Qazi Khalilullah on Thursday said that the Pakistan ambassador in Saudi Arabia has not been given the access to the detained Pakistani defence analyst Zaid Hamid.
Khalilullah briefed that Pakistan embassy in Saudi Arabia has sought details of the punishment given to Zaid Hamid and the charge sheet filed against him. He said that Pakistan's request was under consideration by the Saudi authorities and contact had also been made with the Saudi Embassy in Islamabad to pursue about the charges against him.
The FO spokesperson confirmed that more than 1800 Pakistani nationals are under custody in Saudi Arabia. He said that Pakistan has asked for voice samples of the accused in Mumbai attack so that further investigation can be done.
About a Pakistani national Umer Mubeen – who had gone missing in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) some 18 months ago – he said that the government had conveyed the issue to the Pakistani Consulate General in Dubai and embassy in Abu Dhabi. He said that both the missions were in contact with the UAE authorities for the recovery of Umer Mubeen.
