ISLAMABAD – The Foreign Office on Thursday said peace and tranquility was in the interest of both Pakistan and India and that Pakistan was ready to implement the decisions taken during the meeting of two prime ministers in Ufa, Russia.
“We are committed to the decisions made in Ufa,” Foreign Office spokesman Qazi Khalilullah at a weekly media briefing here at the Foreign Office. The spokesman said relevant officials from both the sides would meet in line with the Ufa meeting and discuss all outstanding issues.
He termed the meeting between Prime Ministers Nawaz Sharif and his Indian counterpart Narendra Modi a new epic of Pakistan's diplomacy. To a question, whether the fresh spate of violations of ceasefire and airspace by India would negatively impact the upcoming meetings of Pakistani and Indian officials, he said that such violations took place in the past too, but the two sides did not turn away from each other and kept meeting from time to time.
He mentioned that despite the ceasefire violation of July 5 by India, the two prime ministers held a bilateral meeting in Ufa. The spokesman said that the Indian high commissioner was summoned to Foreign Office on Thursday to lodge protest on ceasefire and airspace violations by India. When asked about the US drone strikes at Pakistani territory, he said that Pakistan strongly protested whenever there was such a strike. He said that Pakistan's position on drone strikes had always been clear in condemning it as it resulted in civilian casualties.
