Shawal moon sighted, Pakistanis to celebrate Eid on Saturday

ISLAMABAD: Pakistanis will celebrate Eid-u-Fitar on Saturday (tomorrow), announced Chairman of the Ruet-i-Hilal Committee after presiding over a meeting of the body tasked with moon sighting in Islamabad.

Mufti Munibur Rehman made the announcement after receiving ‘authentic’ evidence of moon sighting from different parts of the country.

Besides the Central Committee, Zonal Ruet-e-Hilal Committees also met in the four provinces. The Central Committee received the evidence of moon sighting from Sindh and parts of north-western Pakistan.

“It has been unanimously decided that moon has been sighted, and Eid will fall on Saturday,” said Mufti Munibur Rehman.

Earlier Director General Met Office said moon sighting was likely in Balochistan and Sindh owing to clear skies. However, the Zonal Committee in Balochistan announced it had not received any evidence of moon sighting.
