PM arrives in Maldives

MALE: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif arrived in Maldives on a three days official visit on Tuesday.

On arrival, he was received by Maldivian President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom and cabinet members. The PM will be chief guest at the celebrations of 52nd Independence Day of Maldives being celebrated on Wednesday.

According to a statement, the PM is accompanied by a delegation which includes Adviser on Foreign Affairs Sartaj Aziz and Abdul Ghafoor Khan, Pakistan Tourism Development Corporation (PTDC) managing director.

A number of Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) agreements for cooperation in various fields including tourism would also be signed. Pakistan attaches high importance to its relations with the Maldives, which are characterised by cordially, mutual respect, and commonality of interest.

Diplomatic relations with Maldives, established on July 26, 1966 have grown from strength to strength. Both the countries closely coordinate with each other at regional and international forums on issues of mutual importance.

Pakistan and Maldives relationships are marked by close and warm sentiments between the people of the two countries. The visit will provide impetus to further strengthened our bilateral relations with the Maldives in all areas, including political, trade, economic, defense, tourism, education and people to people contact.
