ISLAMABAD: In the wake of Panama case verdict by the Supreme Court (SC) Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting Marriyum Aurangzeb announced that the ruling Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) will take further course of action after consultation with the legal experts on Friday.
Talking to media outside SC, she said that “Nawaz Sharif has been elected as Prime Minister of Pakistan three times and two times as the chief minister, however, no corruption allegation has been proved against him.”
She said that “The SC verdict also contains no word regarding corruption against the Premier. Its decision of disqualifying Prime Minister Nawaz has not shocked them rather provided a disappointment.”
Marriyum said that “PM Nawaz Sharif has always remained triumphant in the history whether it is politics or among the public. PML-N is a reality and the biggest political party with a large number of workers. Nawaz Sharif won the verdict in public court.”
She asserted that, “Whenever Nawaz Sharif was ousted; he was voted more than before. Whoever becomes the PM, our support and love is always with Nawaz Sharif.”
In its historic verdict, the Supreme Court on Friday disqualified Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif over long-running corruption allegations, a highly anticipated decision that forces him out of office.
“He is disqualified as a member of the parliament so he has ceased to be holding the office of prime minister,” Justice Ejaz Afzal Khan told the packed courtroom.
The court also asked the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) to launch a further probe into the allegations against Sharif, which stem from the Panama Papers leak last year linking the premier’s family to lucrative offshore businesses. No Pakistani prime minister has ever completed a full five-year term.
