ECP rejects petitions seeking delay in General Elections 2018
The Election Commision of Pakistan (ECP) on Monday dismissed three petitions which were filed for the delay in upcoming General Elections 2018

ISLAMABAD: The Election Commision of Pakistan (ECP) on Monday dismissed three petitions which were filed, seeking delay in upcoming General Elections 2018.

During the hearing of the three petitions for the delay in General Elections, which are scheduled on July 25, the Chief Commissioner heard the petitions and reserved the verdict rejecting all of them.

During the session, the counsel of one of the petitioners, Kamran Murtaza, stated that we do not want to delay the elections but we want elections to be held on the same day across the country.

The reason behind this demand is to ensure the transparency of the elections, Murtaza added, we want elections to be held on the same day so that no one gets neglected and that election would not be influenced by anyone as seen in the by-elections.

The counsel further said that voting is the constitutional right of the people of Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA).

In response to this, the commissioner said that there was fresh delimitation of constituencies in FATA.

“We made a committee for the delimitation of constituencies in FATA and Islamabad” he added.

ECP member from Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (KPK) Justice Irshad Qaiser stated that the elections will be held on FATA seats in National Assembly (NA).
