Not just Pakistan’s responsibility to bring Taliban to the negotiating table: FO Spokesperson
*Pakistan believes that there was no military solution to the Afghan conflict.*India should adhere to international laws and human rights, adding that the world should take notice of Indian atrocities in Kashmir, FO spokesperson
ISLAMABAD: Foreign Office (FO) spokesperson Dr Muhammad Faisal on Thursday affirmed Pakistan’s support for the peace talks between Taliban and Afghan government.
While addressing the weekly press briefing, FO spokesperson asserted that Pakistan supported the process of negotiations with the Taliban.
He said that it was not just Pakistan’s responsibility to bring Taliban to the negotiating table.
Faisal said that Pakistan was hopeful that the Taliban will use this opportunity to establish peace.
He added that Pakistan endorsed all measures taken by Afghan President Ashraf Ghani pertaining to the peace talks.
FO spokesperson further said that Pakistan believed that there was no military solution to the Afghan conflict.
He added that the recent visit of United States (US) State department official Alice Wells acknowledged Pakistan’s border management system on the Afghan border.
During the briefing, Faisal said that the diplomats residing in Pakistan have been briefed on the recent United Nations’ human rights report over violations in Indian Occupied Kashmir.He added that India should adhere to international laws and human rights, adding that the world should take notice of Indian atrocities in Kashmir.
Dr Faisal, expressed his condolences over the martyrdom of seven Kashmiris within this month.
Upon being questioned about surfacing rumors claiming Nawaz has sought political asylum in London, Faisal said that he had no information over the matter.
Earlier today, Asif Ali Zardari had claimed that Nawaz Sharif had sought political asylum in London ahead of Avenfield reference verdict.
Wells had earlier arrived on an official visit to Pakistan on Monday and met Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa on Tuesday. During the meeting both the countries assured of their devotion and commitment to achieve regional stability and peace.
The US State Department official commended Pakistan’s efforts and role in countering the menace of terrorism.
