Army to assist ECP ‘within bounds of given mandate’

RAWALPINDI: Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa was given a detailed briefing about army’s plan for provision of assistance to the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) during polls, said a statement issued by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).

The army chief was briefed during his visit to the Rawalpindi’s Army Elections Support Center on Tuesday.

COAS directed that Army shall assist the ECP strictly within the bounds of given mandate and as per commission’s code of conduct, the statement said.

General Bajwa stressed on the need of ‘working in synchronisation with security apparatus to make sure free fair and transparent elections’.

Army personnel will be deployed inside and around polling stations to ensure security during the polls, scheduled to be held in on July 25.
