White House yet to confirm PM Imran’s visit, US State Dept
WASHINGTON: The US Department of State on Wednesday has said that there is no confirmation by the White House of a visit to the premiere this month.
The State Department Spokesperson Morgan Ortagus during a press briefing said that she would go out to the White House to confirm the visit.
“To my knowledge, that has actually not been confirmed by the White House. I know that I have read the same reports that you have, but I would reach out to the White House to confirm or not confirm that visit, but that’s — we don’t have anything to announce here from the State Department,” she said.
She also said, “But that’s we don’t have anything to announce here from the State Department”.
Although Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Zulfi Bukhari, while addressing the Pakistani embassy in Washington, said that the premier will also visit the Pakistani community and meet the people.
Pakistani officials had stated that the visit is meant to reset bilateral ties between the two countries.
The visit, if it happens, will be significant given the fact that this would be the first high-level interaction between the two countries during the tenure of President Trump.
During the visit, matters pertaining to Pak-US bilateral relations, regional situation, and the Afghan peace process will come under discussion.
