Nationwide Covid-19 tally crosses 255,000; 170,656 recovered so far

The nationwide tally of Covid-19 patients soared to 255,056 on Tuesday, with 87,492 cases reported in Punjab, 107,773 in Sindh, 31,001 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 11,239 in Balochistan, 1,694 in Gilgit Baltistan, 14,202 in Islamabad and 1,655 in Azad Jammu and Kashmir. The virus has claimed at least 5,366 lives while around 170,656 coronavirus patients have recovered so far.

At least 449 new coronavirus cases were reported in Punjab over the previous 24 hours, taking the provincial tally of infections to 87,492. According to the National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC) report on Covid-19, 13 more people died due to complications related to the highly contagious disease over the 24 hours, taking the death toll to 2,026.


With 1,151 new cases recorded in a day, Sindh’s provincial tally reached 107,773 on Tuesday. As per Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah’s daily briefing, 37 more people succumbed to the virus. This took the province’s total deaht toll to 1,863. The province recorded another 1,591 recoveries, taking the total number of recoveries to 6,420.

The chief minister said that 40,490 coronavirus patients are undergoing treatment in the province, including 412 at isolation centres and 38,917 at their homes. He maintained that 1161 COVID-19 patients are admitted at the hospitals and out of these patients, 843 are in critical condition. The chief minister said that 121 patients are on ventilators in the province.


Murad Ali Shah said that 9972 tests were conducted in Sindh during past 24 hours and overall number of tests in the province has reached to 593,668. He said that among 1151 fresh cases in Sindh, 415 were detected in Karachi in the past 24 hours.

The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government announced that the province was reporting a decline in the number of coronavirus-related deaths and cases, with only three three fatalities taking place in the last 24 hours. Health Secretary Syed Imtiaz Hussain, while apprising about the virus situation in the province, said previously more than 24 deaths per day were being reported in the province, however, the number has seen a decline in the past few days. He added that the number of coronavirus-affected patients who were receiving treatment at various hospitals across the province has also decreased, with fewer patients on ventilators and ICU units as compared to before.


Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi said on Tuesday that he has been discharged from the hospital after recovery from coronavirus. He said blood plasma of recovered Covid-19 patients was transfused into his body.
