PM to ink two pacts with Spain today

* Gilani to represent Pakistan at second Pak-EU summit on June 4

MADRID/ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister (PM) Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani is scheduled to sign two agreements for bilateral and anti-terrorism cooperation with Spain today (Wednesday).

Gilani is on a 4-day visit to Spain and Belgium. Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi, Trade & Commerce Minister Makhdoom Amin Fahim, Minister of State for Information Syed Sumsam Ali Bukhari and Awami National Party (ANP) chief Asfandyar Wali Khan are accompanying the PM. The PM would meet Spanish King Juan Carlos I, Prime Minister Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero Madrid Mayor Alberto Ruiz Gallardon who would hold a working lunch for the visiting dignitary. Gilani would then reach Belgium, where apart from meeting the country’s leadership, he would also visit the European Parliament, the NATO Headquarters and address the council members of the alliance. The PM would represent Pakistan at the 2nd Pak-EU Summit on June 4, which would review the progress made on various issues identified at the summit last year. During his visit, the PM is also scheduled to meet European Commission President Jose Manuel Barraso and EU Parliament President Jerzy Buzek.

Separately, the PM departed for a 4-day official visit to Spain and Belgium on Tuesday. Gilani, talking to the media, at the Chaklala Air Base said that during talks with the European countries, Pakistan would seek more access for its products to EU markets. saeed minhas/iqbal choudhry
