Emergency declared in Balochistan coastal areas
QUETTA: The residents of Balochistan’s coastal areas including Sonmiani, Gadani and Dam where emergency has been declared in view of approaching Phet cyclone, are being evacuated to safer places, Geo News reported Thursday.Talking to Geo News, Director Met Department Balochistan Saifullah Shami said the next 12 hours were crucial for the coastal areas in the province, though the cyclone was expected to downgrade in its run up to landfall here.
He added if the storm raged on with the same intensity, the coastal areas including Marah, Pasni and Gwadar could be most hit.
Shami said the rain weather system would enter Balochistan coastal areas including Gadani, Gwadar, Marah and Jiwani during the next 14 hours.
Disaster Management Authority Balochistan Director General Hassan Baloch said all necessary arrangements have been finalized in the province’s coastal areas; also, a control room has been established to make emergency steps and keep an eye on the developing situation of the storm.
He said two trucks carrying various relief goods including tents, edibles and medicines have been dispatched to Lasbela which would reach the concerning areas today.
