* Punjab CM seeks Chinese assistance in constructing loops of the Lahore Ring Road

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) chief Nawaz Sharif urged China on Thursday to enhance its investment in vital areas of Pakistan’s economy, focusing on the agriculture, power and energy sectors.

He said this while exchanging views with Chinese Vice Premier Zhang Dejiang, who had called on him. Extending a warm welcome to the vice premier and his high-level delegation, Nawaz Sharif stated that China had always stood by Pakistan and extended all kind of assistance in times of trial.

Nawaz Sharif commented on the remarkable progress China has made in the past 30 years which has shielded China from the economic crisis currently engulfing the economies of major world powers. He also extended full support to China on the issue of Taiwan and said he condemns any effort to disturb the peace in Tibet and Xinjiang.

Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif, who also attended the meeting along with Raja Zafarul Haq, Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan and Ishaq Dar, highlighted the importance of Chinese investment in Pakistan’s energy sector, especially in light of the current power shortage in the country.

He also referred to the possibility of Chinese participation in power generation from coal as the country had huge deposits of this valuable source of fuel.

Shahbaz Sharif also proposed Chinese participation in construction of the sudden loops of the Lahore Ring Road.

The Chinese vice premier assured the chief minister that he would thoroughly examine the proposal and respond at the earliest. app
