UK to provide 8m pounds for KP schools

ISLAMABAD: The British government has announced a new education programme worth 8.13 million pounds to provide free textbooks to over three million children and a monthly allowance to 300,000 girl students at public sector primary and secondary schools in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Briefing the media at the British High Commission on Thursday, UK Secretary of State for International Development Andrew Mitchell said Pakistan was facing an “education emergency”. “The Department for International Development (DFID) is committed to supporting the government of Pakistan in achieving its education-related goals and speeding up progress towards the Millennium Development Goals,” said DFID Secretary Andrew Mitchell.
