Govt has refused to appoint Khosa as BoP probe head, SC told

ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court was told on Friday that the government has turned down NAB’s request to appoint Narcotics Control Secretary Tariq Khosa as head of an investigation team to probe criminal cases in the Bank of Punjab loan scam.

A three-member Supreme Court bench comprising Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry, Justice Ghulam Rabbani and Justice Khalilur Rehman Ramday was hearing the loan scam case.

Meanwhile, NAB Chairman Naveed Ahsen, one of the members of a four-member committee constituted by the court, has written to the establishment secretary to appoint Lahore Additional Inspector General Aftab Sultan to assist him in the BoP case.

Appearing on notice, the NAB deputy prosecutor general told the court the NAB chairman had requested the government to relieve Khosa of his duties to probe the scam. However, he said the Establishment Division turned down the request, saying Khosa could not be made available due to his commitments to the Narcotics Control Ministry.

The court then constituted a four-member committee comprising the NAB chairman, Deputy Prosecutor General Raja Aamir, Attorney General Anwarul Haq and Khosa, to finalise a person from those proposed by the government, including the Karachi CCPO, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa additional chief secretary and the Lahore additional inspector general, to head the probe. masood rehman/app
