SC lauds KP minister for resigning
ISLAMABAD: A three-member Supreme Court (SC) bench on Friday lauded Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Minister for Jails Nisar Gul’s gesture for tendering his resignation and showing his intentions to face trial over an allegation of abducting a young girl.
The bench – comprising Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry, Justice Ghulam Rabbani and Justice Khalilur Rehman Ramday – while disposing of the case noted that Gul resigned from his office to face the allegations and trial without claiming any privileges as provincial minister.
The court directed that the case regarding the allegations should be strictly dealt with in accordance with the law. The CJP observed that the former minister deserved to be lauded for his gesture, as he had stepped down from his post to face trial.
The court was told that Additional Sessions Judge Asghar Ali Shah, who had granted bail to the minister, had also been suspended on the directions of the Peshawar High Court chief justice, whereas proceedings in the trial court were in progress. staff report
