Sindh ADP gets Rs 115 billion

KARACHI: Sindh Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah presenting the provincial budget for the next fiscal year 2010-11 in Sindh Assembly on Friday, announced an Annual Development Programme (ADP) of Rs 115 billion, translating an increase of Rs 40 billion or 53 percent against the amount allocated in the outgoing fiscal year of 2009-10.
In the budget 2010-11, the share of provincial ADP was Rs 115 billion over Rs 75 billion in the outgoing financial year. The province would receive Rs 4.2 billion in foreign project assistance in 2010-11 as compared with Rs 3,499 billion in the outgoing financial year. In federal grants, the province will get Rs 14.433 billion against Rs 16.605 billion in 2009-10.
In Drought Emergency Relief Assistance (DERA), the proposed fund allocation remained the same at Rs 1.5 billion as against previous year.
The sector-wise allocation in the development budget showed that health allocation has been increased to Rs 6.3 billion and Rs 10.6 billion for the recurrent side.
In education affairs and services, the development budget has slightly increased at Rs 6.939 billion against Rs 6.505 billion over the last year. The allocation for general public service slashed at Rs 733 million as compared with Rs 2.828 billion in the outgoing year.
The economic affairs also reduced to Rs 27.345 billion against Rs 29.144 billion in the last year. The environment protection allocation was reduced to Rs 1.406 billion against Rs 2.116 billion in the previous year.
Housing and community amenities allocation also decreased to Rs 1.342 billion against Rs 2.138 billion of 2009-10. The allocation of recreational, culture and religion were reduced to Rs 468 million as compared with Rs 512 million allocated last year.
The budget allocation for social protection allocated at Rs 91.284 billion against Rs 42.885 billion a year earlier 2009-10.
Police budget increased to Rs 29.6 billion.
A Larkana package comprising 22 schemes at a cost of Rs 4.6 billion was approved that would be funded by the federal and Sindh governments on a 50:50 basis.
The road sector allocation of Rs 12.3 billion was made while the irrigation and drainage allocation for 2010-11 stood at Rs 10.5 billion with an increase of 100 percent.
